Channels in categories, direct messages, threads in the panel beside the conversation instead of inside it. Mentions, saved and unread messages each have a view of their own, and search finds messages and files.

Calls with screen sharing up to 1080p, guests for people from outside, export, two-factor sign-in and an access log come with it.

No one reads along. And that is measured.

A walk through the app, from signing in through channels, a thread and search to the settings, makes 39 requests. All of them go to eu-chat.de. An automated test fails as soon as one appears that leaves the building; the fonts come from here too, not from Google.

Questions and answers

Where do our messages and files sit?

On a Hetzner server in Falkenstein, Germany. Messages, files, calls and accounts do not leave the data centre, and loading the app sends not a single request to a third party.

What does EU Chat cost?

Nothing during the beta, for the whole team and with everything EU Chat can do. Prices after that will be shown here once they are set, and nobody is moved over without notice.

How large can files be?

A file up to 100 MB, and a workspace has 10 GB for files. Pictures, videos and PDFs open right in the app, and whoever uploaded a file can share it outside with a link that expires.

Can people from outside take part?

Yes, as guests. A guest sees only the channels they are invited to, and costs nothing extra.

Who reads along with the AI?

Summaries are written by a model from Mistral AI in Paris, directly and with no one in between, only when somebody asks. Wherever a model wrote, the Assist sign says so. Private channels stay private there too.

Can we leave again?

Any time. Under "Workspace administration" an admin downloads every conversation as a file, without asking and without waiting.

Are there apps?

For Windows and Android, and both update themselves. On a Mac and an iPhone EU Chat runs in the browser, from the home screen too.

What happens if something goes wrong?

Everything is backed up every night, and that the backup can be restored is checked regularly. A watcher checks every five minutes that EU Chat can be reached.
